Some early sketches from the trip. I spend a lot of time in Ubers these day
Last weekend, a group of us drove up to Lake Arrowhead for a cabin sketching trip!
My friends gave me a heads up about actual snow well in advance, but coming from the Great North, I’d scoffed at the idea of a Californian winter. Well, Canada, it only took one severely under-dressed afternoon for me to eat my words 🥶
Something about a chonky set of COPICs makes any situation feel instantly ✨artistic✨
The trip involved all the cozy comforts you’d expect from a cabin experience - group cooking, fireplace shenanigans, wood chopping… what did take us by surprise
Lots of excitement on the horizon as I might be returning to an in-person story room soon!
The whole story is a post on its own, but to dust off some cobwebs first, here are a few snippets of what’s been going on around the studio.
Systems, systems!
I’ve been on a bit of a process-refining kick since last year, mainly to wrap my head around how branched-out my to-do list was becoming.
A lot of the work has been about affirming what priorities I have the capacity to meaningfully act on at the moment, building scaffolding to make sure my time and interest focus around it, and then being ruthless about letting go of the rest.
The latter can be sneaky. To arrive at “I’m okay with not tending to this at the moment - or ever,” and actually mean it seems to be a whole project of its own for me.
I find that reflecting backwards, before planning forward, helps me curb overextension.

Hi everyone! Checking in from the midst of project mayhem!
Toronto finally got the memo on spring, and with it, quite a few changes came along. I spent most of April fawning over mynew roommate Haku, who moved in earlier this month to help out with routine and health.
Haku's original name is Xiang, which translates to either 翔 soar, glide or 祥 good luck, good omen. And besides the unsubtle Spirited Away nod, Haku can also mean white soul in Japanese. Soaring white soul.
Rest assured, he lives up to his full name every day.
Even on the brink of peril, Haku's meows are very polite.
Even if you don't share his passion for everything mechanical and airborne, it's hard not to respect the effort he puts into selling his make-believes!
